The commencement of a question and answer contest
This student- question- answer contest which last year was conducted at a similar time has started once again this year too. According to the coordinator of this particular event -Ato Getachew Tagesse, this competition among students of the college is meant to develop the competitive sprit among students, is meant to bring about a change in the students registration of relatively better grades, is meant to raise up their interests in reading in particular. To advance this effort, all departments of the faculty have accomplished their preparation well in advance of the required time - a condition which testifies to the fact that this year’s content would proceed even more vigorously and forcefully than the previous year. According to Ato Getachew’s disclosure, the college is presently conducting various works at a project level adding that more than Birr 50,000 has been allocated alone for the purpose of up-grading the efficiency of students and that a committee composed of various department heads, coordinators, and students has been already formed to closely make a follow up of the work launched. Meanwhile it has also been disclosed that a –two-day-training for student delegates would be offered. While the college has managed to graduate several trainees in various fields over the last seven years now, it has travelled through some problems, as well employing various methods to alleviate and solve these problems at the same time. Among these problems the ones prevailing up to now are the following: late arrival, absence, failure to give focus for education, making fun of something or somebody where it is not required, and lock of interest in reading. In discussions held with teachers to avoid these problems, the carful handling of student attendance together with the absence of any student for no satisfactory and acceptable reasons have been agreed on to be dealt with severely, together with the continuation of the question and answer sessions and the conduct of COC classes by experienced teachers of the college. Following this trend, it has been proposed to recruit outstanding students from every class together with the student delegates to invite them as participants in a two day training program to be conducted soon.
According to announcements made by the office of the Academic Dean, the intended training session would particularly focus on inter- student relationships with regard to improving both aspects of the teaching and training - laying emphasis on as to what is expected from students in this respect including the- one- to- five- study- approach- system. This and the other relevant topics to be discussed during the training session are believed to consolidate and advance the Quality Assurance efforts of the college by taking it a significant step forward.
